KDA issues emergency regulations to allow older pumps sell $4+ per gallon gasoline

In order to temporarily accomodate some older gasoline pumps that will not calculate above $3.999 per gallon, Governor Steve Beshear has declared a state of emergency, and Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer has issued emergency regulations that will allow retailers to continue selling fuel on these pumps. Under the regulations, retailers using pumps that cannot calculate above $3.99 per gallon must post signs listing the correct price.  Once the price reaches $4.00 or higher, consumers will have to prepay.  The retailer will calculate the cost manually.

The emergency declaration expires August 31, 2008.  Retailers will be required to order new equipment.  Operators will have 60 days from the date of equipment purchase to have it installed and functioning properly.
