Coskata to the biofuel rescue!

A biofuels company called Coskata claims it can convert virtually any waste–grass, municipal waste, old tires, wood chips–into fuel for use in your car. Coskata claims it can do this using a patented bioreactor and anaerobic microbes found in nature.  Coskata is building a plant in Pennsylvania to demonstrate a process for producing ethanol from biomass and waste products.

Coskata’s biology-based technology enables the low-cost production of ethanol from a wide variety of input material including biomass, municipal solid waste and other carbonaceous material. Coskata claims it can produce ethanol for under $1.00 per gallon.  In addition to the talk, Coskata must be able to walk the walk.  General Motors purchased an equity stake in Coskata to produce biofuels without using a food source, such as corn, sugar, or soy beans.  GM and Coskata plan to accelerate the commercialization and retail development of biomass-based ethanol.  Let’s all pray for their success.
